Value Delivered

Shambaugh's Design-Build team was the single-source responsibility, engineering and design capabilities team on the project and gave the client a guarantee of no cost overruns. The team helped the plant reduce SO2 emissions by 50 percent to comply with federal clean air mandates and fabric filters reduced particulate emissions by 90 percent. The Shambaugh team completed the project five months ahead of schedule.

Client Objectives

The client wanted to convert two existing 100,000 pounds per hour gas-fired, stoker boiler units, which are used for cogeneration, to micronized coal and limestone fired units.

Scope of Services

Shambaugh directly controlled, managed and performed all aspects of the project including mechanical, electrical and process controls. The completed system allows for “on the fly” switching from gas- to coal-fired and vice versa.

This dual fuel flexibility is very beneficial for choosing the most cost effective fuel depending on coal and gas prices. Throughout the entire project, the plant remained in operations.
